About a month ago, I saw Damien Jurado play a show at Heimathafen Neukölln. Aside from seeing a modern day singer/songwriter great, I was truly captivated by his opener, Courtney Marie Andrews. It was just her and her guitar up there, but she moved the audience in ways that only the subtlety of a sweet voice and softly plucked guitar strings can. Like Jurado, she’s rooted in the Seattle folk scene. She uses a beautiful fingerpicking style in many of her songs, which I think really shines in a live, acoustic setting. I find that her music is pretty perfect for a relaxed, rainy day at home. So grab some tea, close your eyes, and listen.
And if she happens to be playing anywhere near you, I would definitely make it out to go see her.
