Off-Kultur

Where | various venues in Neukölln
How much | tickets sold individually per event/performance
Founded this year as a critical response to the aforementioned Pop-Kultur, Off-Kultur has forgone the big international names for a focus on local music. The grassroots festival features a ton of Berlin mainstays like Girlie and Hush Moss, with DJ sets from Better Person, Molly Nilsson, and Sean Nicholas Savage, among others.
Melodica Festival
When | 03-04.09
Where | Birgit&Bier
How much | donation basis
Melodica Festival is a lovely little acoustic music festival organized by and for singer-songwriters. A tight-knit network of musicians has made the festival possible in over a dozen international—primarily European—cities. They do a great job of creating an intimate living room concert atmosphere, with the musicians and fans all intermingling and supporting one another. This year they’ve invited a host of musicians from all over, but the must-see has got to be Iceland’s folk teddy bear, Svavar Knutur.
